How To Make Cornbread

The cornerstone of Southern American cuisine, corn bread has been a staple dish of this country for about the same amount of time it has actually been a country. By combining some old world baking techniques from Europe with the maize of Native Americans, corn bread is a perfect example of the unique food of the United States. Ingredients
¾ cup flour
¾ cup corn meal
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 egg
1 ¾ cup buttermilk
4 tbsp melted butter
2 tbsp honey

Directions
1. Mix the dry ingredients and set aside. Mix the buttermilk and egg and add to the dry mixture. Add the honey and, once the mixture is almost incorporated, add the melted butter and mix.
2. Pour into a greased 8” square pan which has been lined with parchment paper. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown in color.

Corn , onions, peppers, cooked bacon, berries and cheese can be added to the bread about 1 cup total.
