Cupcakes are the perfect everyday treat and can also be enjoyed during special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. But not all cupcakes are created equal. In order to get that perfect fluffy, moist consistency, there are a few tips you have to adhere to during the baking process.

Use quality ingredients
If you don’t use quality ingredients, you’re not going to end up with an exceptional cupcake. It’s best to splurge on the name brand ingredients instead of going with the imitation version. This will make all the difference in giving you delicious cupcakes that people will rave about. A fundamental baking class online can help you choose the right ingredients for your cupcake recipe.

Mix on low speed
When mixing your cupcake batter, be gentle. If you over-mix, you can end up with very heavy batter that gives you a cupcake that is less than moist and fluffy. Instead, always mix on a low speed. You’ll know when the batter is ready for the cupcake pan when it has a creamy consistency. If it’s grainy, continue to gently mix.

Use an ice cream scoop
If there isn’t an even amount of batter in each cupcake liner, they’re not all going to cook evenly. Therefore, make sure that each slot is filled up equally with batter by using an ice cream scoop. This way, you won’t have to eyeball it, and you’ll get uniform, tasty cupcakes every time.

Use the oven light
It can be tempting to open up your oven and see how well your cupcakes are baking. But doing so can cause lots of heat to escape from your oven, affecting the overall baking time. Instead, just use the oven light to check on the status of your sweet treats.

Be careful to never over-bake
Leaving your cupcakes in the oven for too long can leave them with a dry and crumbly texture. So when a recipe says they should bake for 20 to 25 minutes, err on the side of caution by checking your treats after 20 minutes. You should also use an oven thermometer to make sure the temperature is just right. Keep in mind that even if you take them out of the oven at the right time, the cupcakes will continue to bake in the pan. Therefore, you should let the cupcakes cool for only a few minutes, then transfer each cupcake to a wire rack.

Cover the tops with frosting
During the frosting process, be sure to cover the entire top of the cupcake. This is what helps seal in the moisture and prevent the cupcake from overdrying.
