Food Book Fair returns to Brooklyn

Apply your online cooking school knowledge at the third annual Food Book Fair at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn. The event, a congregation of publishers, authors, chefs, artists, farmers and foodies, will take place from April 25-27 with the pop-up bookstore opening a bit earlier on April 18. The Food Book Fair will highlight and celebrate the intersection of pop culture and food culture with several events such as the Food + Enterprise panel, a Food + Growing + Music event featuring live music and even a GMO roundtable discussion.

Pitch competition
As part of the Food + Enterprise Panel, the Food Book Fair has partnered with Slow Money NYC to host a pitch competition. This event will consist of five minute pitches by food startups in the seed funding stage. The audience will then have the opportunity to cast their ballot for who they think has the best idea. The start up with the most votes will win $500. In addition, a panel of experts will be offering their opinions about each startup’s viability. Extra points will be given to those projects that include some kind of written element.

Foodieodicals
This year stands out from the previous two by the inclusion of what are known as foodieodicals. These food-centric periodicals represent a new wave in food publishing as writers begin to harness the power of the Internet to distribute their work. Foodieodicals slated to attend this year’s Food Book Fair include Lucky Peach, MOOD, Graze and Edible Magazine.

This event promises to be an interesting weekend destination for online culinary school students. Individuals have the opportunity to see some of the best and brightest minds in their chosen field of study and  discuss some of the industry’s most pressing issues. Those interested can head out to the event space at 33 Nassau Avenue in Brooklyn this spring.
