In this video, Escoffier Online’s Chef Susie Wolak discusses the ombre layered cake trend and gives a tutorial on how to assemble an ombre cake. Ombre colors revamp standard layered cakes, the descending colors from light to dark gives cakes a stunning effect.

Start by making standard white cake you learned how to bake in your online pastry class and add in different amounts of food coloring in each cake for the layers to come out in darker shades. Once the colored layers are made, make a butter cream icing and place the icing between each cake. To make the ombre cake more colorful you can switch up the butter cream icing colors between each layer. When the layers are assembled finish off with the outside of the cake by creating swirls with light cream icing for more of an elegant look.
