Student Spotlight: Lisa Berry
Lisa Berry, a recent culinary arts graduate and current baking and pastry student, shares her culinary journey with us. Enjoy!
My name is Lisa Berry. I recently completed the Culinary Arts program and have now moved on to Pastry Arts. I came across Escoffier Online when I was surfing for recipes to use with some patty pan squash. I love food and spend lots of time thinking about food. I filled out the request for information and within the hour I was enrolled. Within the next hour Chef Mark called to welcome me.
I am a Nurse Practitioner by profession. I was out of work when I started the program. I thought this could be a backup if I did not find a Nurse Practitioner job. I find myself out of work again so I may need to find a food service position. I have enjoyed every minute of the program. I have not always been successful with my first attempt at some of the recipes. That is OK. That is how we learn. For example, my first attempt at the herb infused oil was inedible. Needless to say I tried it again, with great results! I have also made some very delicious things. I will never make beef stew the way I made it before.
The pastry arts program is good too! Tomorrow I will make focaccia and then apple pecan muffins. We are being exposed to all the techniques and methods of baking and pastry. Bon appetite to all!
