During your online culinary class, you will learn how steaming is one of the healthiest and easiest ways to cook food. There are many different tools used when it comes to steaming food in the kitchen. In this video, Chef Thomas demonstrates three different steaming techniques. The most used is a sauce pan with a little bit of water. Some might also use a bamboo basket that is placed inside a sauce pan and brought to a boil. This technique is often used to steam mainly dumplings, but is perfect for other applications. Last technique Chef Thomas discusses is steaming en papillote, a French classic technique. This technique calls for the use of parchment paper that is cut into a heart shape. You then brush the paper with butter, place product inside, and pop in the oven to bake. When finished cooking open the parchment paper and the steam will release. This is fantastic for great presentation and can even be used for proteins.
