If you love the baking & pastry arts, the Cooking Channel’s new show may quickly become your new favorite! Called “Sweet Julia,” the program debuts on April 20 and is hosted by Phoenix-based confectioner Julia Baker. The chef is no stranger to the spotlight, as she has been featured on cooking shows ranging from “The Chew” and “The Gayle King Show” to “Not My Mama’s Meals.”

After learning to cook at international culinary schools in Paris, Baker opened her flagship store, Julia Baker Confections, at Phoenix’ Biltmore Fashion Park. The Cooking Channel isn’t giving away any secrets as to what the show will really entail, but a source told the Phoenix New Times that it will be a mix of recipes and cooking tips in a “reality television” style. According to the source, the first episode of Sweet Julia will show Baker’s cake-making process.

In the culinary world, Baker is revered for her ability to re-make old favorites in a new way. Her Red Velvet Gems recipe, a playful take on classic red velvet cake, is already extremely popular, and invites budding chefs to create bite-sized variations of this decadent dessert.
