Food Network Star Plans To Open Restaurant In New Jersey Hometown

Chances are if you’re taking online culinary courses, you’re pretty familiar with the faces and personalities on the Food Network. One such star is Camden, New Jersey, native Aaron McCargo.

After winning “The Next Food Network Star” and then hosting “Big Daddy’s House” on the Food Network for three seasons, his culinary career has taken off, and he’s ready to bring some of that success to his hometown.

Camden has fell on hard times during the economic downturn, and according to the Courier-Post, the city is trying to revitalize its downtown area. McCargo plans to open a brunch/lunch/happy hour spot at 3rd and Market streets in his hometown if he gets the necessary city support.

Robert Corrales, a spokesperson for Camden’s mayor, Dana Redd, stated that although the plans have not yet been finalized with the city council, this restaurant opening “goes to show a wave, a positive movement in the city.”

He told the source that if business picks up for his venture, he will expand the restaurant to include dinner options. Even though McCargo’s success as a chef has soared, he’s remained close to his community and plans to use the skills he learned in the culinary academy to bring some cheer to his hometown.
