Our Favorite Festival Foods

Festival season is upon us. Music fests are a mix of eclectic fashion, music, art and other forms of entertainment, but one of the most exciting things for festival goers has become the wide array of foods available for online culinary school students to eat. From the fantastically fried elephant ears and corn dogs to more adventurous dishes, here are some of the hottest festival foods:

The Jamaican jerk “vegan chickun” wrap from Los Angeles’ Southern Fried Vegan is a popular dish amongst vegetarians who attend festivals like Lightning in a Bottle or Coachella in California. Complete with pineapple salsa and coleslaw, people hardly know they’re eating a meat-free wrap.

Namu Street Food is a San Francisco-native street vendor that serves Korean-American fusion like “the real Korean tacos.” Made with rice, pickled daikon, seaweed, nori, and kimchi salsa and remoulade, even people with the most refined palates at Outside Lands will appreciate it.

While pizza is a festival staple all across the country, Austin City Limits usually has a special type on deck. Hoeks Death Metal Pizza is located in downtown Austin and is usually blasting metal music for the whole street to hear. Whether they have a booth at the festival or you’re looking for a post-fest snack, you’re going to want to try a slice of death metal pizza.

Firefly Music Festival in Delaware has plenty of food vendors, but if you’re going to eat or drink anything while you’re there, be sure to try the fest’s exclusive beer, Firefly Ale by Dogfish Head. The English-style pale ale is hoppy, but fruity – perfect for the springtime music festival.

Tot Cart is a favorite vendor at Pennsylvania’s heavy Rock Allegiance. The fest boasts music, craft beer and gourmet man food, and what’s manlier than tater tots covered in one of over a hundred toppings, like cheese, bacon or gravy? So bang your head to previous headliners like Rob Zombie and Bring Me the Horizon with some cheesy tots.

Do you ever find yourself torn between Asian food and hot dogs? Well, you don’t have to choose between the two at Governors Ball in New York City because Asiadog will be there. With options like Thai relish, pork belly and sesame slaw, you won’t even miss ketchup or mustard.

South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, is hot, so chances are you’ll be looking for something refreshing when your stomach starts rumbling. Luckily, Coolhaus is a staple at most of Austin’s food and music festivals. Not only does the ice cream vendor offer crazy flavors, from avocado sea salt to foie gras PB&J (don’t worry, there’s simple flavors like peanut butter or horchata too) but you can also get it sandwiched between a wide variety of cookies. Eating at Coolhaus and putting together your ideal ice cream cookie sandwich is just a lot of fun.
