If you don’t already include olive oil in your diet, it’s time to start. It’s packed with monounsaturated fatty acids, which help lower cholesterol levels, control blood sugar levels and normalize blood clotting, according to the Mayo Clinic. The good news is olive oil is more than just something you drizzle over your salad. Here are four ways to use olive oil in your diet:

Fry with it
While frying with butter can help your food come out more crispy and tasty, it isn’t exactly ideal for your health. The next time you want to make eggs, pancakes or another dish on your stove, use olive oil. Once your pan is heated up, add 2 tablespoon of the oil and start cooking!

Use it in your sandwich
Did you know that putting olive oil in your sandwich can give it that extra oomph? Instead of slathering your ham sandwich with mayonnaise or another unhealthy condiment, give olive oil a chance. Half a teaspoon between the bread will make a plain old sandwich taste like a gourmet masterpiece.

Make pesto sauce
Olive oil combined with a few other ingredients can make a pretty tasty pesto sauce for pasta. To make this delicious creation, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup pine nuts
  • 3 cloves of garlic

Cooks.com suggests adding all the ingredients except olive oil in a blender and mixing until everything is smooth. Then, place the sauce into a freezer container and drizzle the olive oil on top of it. Leave it in the refrigerator until you want to make pasta.

Coat your meat with it
When you are craving chicken or another meat for dinner, don’t forget to rub a generous amount of olive oil on the protein before putting it in the oven. Doing this will not just be beneficial for your heart – it will also make the meat more moist.

Bake cakes and pies with it
Olive oil is also great to use as a substitute for butter when baking cakes and pies. When you take these sweet treats out of the even, they will be moist and scrumptious from the oil.

Incorporating olive oil in your diet will make your food tastier and healthier.
