High Energy Breakfast Foods

It all seems so obvious when you sit back and think about it: the foods that you choose to eat really do have a strong bearing on your energy level throughout the day. While culinary academy students may have already figured this out,  it seems that most of us could benefit from dedicating more thought to what we’re eating. Contrary to popular belief, revising your diet to give us more energy need not mean giving up the foods that you love. If you’re feeling a bit lackadaisical around the office and are trying to put a little more pep in your step, check out these high energy breakfast foods that can change your life.

Apples and cottage cheese
According to Joy Bauer, one of the best things you can eat in the morning is some diced apples with cottage cheese piled on top of them. High in protein and carbohydrates but low in fat and calories, this dish will get your morning started off right without padding your waistline. While it’s delicious on its own, adding cinnamon or brown sugar to taste can be a fun way to change things up.

Ginger mango smoothie
The perfect breakfast for someone who wants to get a healthy, high-energy beginning to their day but isn’t willing to sacrifice even a small amount of flavor, the ginger mango smoothie is a wonderful treat.  According to Prevention, this drink takes only ten minutes to make, prep time included, and provides a solid base of calories, carbohydrates and fiber to get your day started. Better still, you can probably make it out of things you already have in your kitchen.

Steel cut oats
It seems like a lot of people move away from eating oatmeal as they grow older, but it’s actually one of the best choices you can make at the breakfast table. Containing strong amounts of both complex carbohydrates and simple proteins, oatmeal can provide you with the delicious start to your morning you deserve, as well as the day-long energy you need. According to ABC News, eating steel cut oats is a great way to give your body potassium, omega-3 fatty acids and folate, also.
