Escoffier Online – Michel Escoffier Visits the US

Michel Escoffier, the Great-grandson of Auguste Escoffier, visited the US this past week for a  whirlwind of events. Auguste Escoffier is known as The Father of Modern French Cuisine. Like his Great-grandfather, Michel shares a passion for food and wine and wants to make sure his legend lives on. Michel is the President of The Auguste Escoffier Foundation and Museum and sits on the advisory broad for both the Escoffier Online International Culinary Academy and Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts.Michel began his trip with a special event, hosted by Triumph Higher Education Group and the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, at Waterbar Restaurant in San Francisco, California. The reception was to honor special guests, Chef Jeremiah Tower, The Father of California Cuisine, and Michel Escoffier for both their contributions to the culinary world. In addition to honoring Tower and Escoffier, the Disciples Escoffier welcomed Cyril Chappellet and fellow inductee, Chef Mark Franz, into its membership. As part of becoming distinguished international members, both recipients received the sash, official pin, and a certificate declaring their membership. Additionally, upon receiving the Green Sash, Chappellet became the first winery in the U.S. to be inducted into the Disciples Escoffier.

While traveling in San Francisco, Michel attended an advisory board meeting for the Auguste Escoffier Schools and Escoffier Online Culinary Academy at the Renaissance San Francisco Stanford Court Hotel. Advisory board members in attendance were Michel Bouit, Mary Chamberlin, Mark Dowling, Michel Escoffier, Jack Larson, Luc Pasquier, Michael Pythoud, Christian Rassinoux, Paul Ryan, and Jeremiah Tower.

The next stop on Michel’s visit was to Austin, Texas to attend the graduation ceremony for graduates of Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. While visiting the Austin campus, students had the honor of welcoming Michel into their classes to showcase their contributions to the culinary world. Following Michel’s trip to Austin, was a visit to the Auguste Escoffier School in Boulder, Colorado. Students from the Boulder campus also had an opportunity to meet with Michel one-on-one and receive a personally signed copy of Le Guide Culinaire.

Michel’s trip concluded with a visit to the Corporate Headquarters and Escoffier Online International Culinary Academy in Hoffman Estates, IL. During his time in Illinois, Michel attended a marked moment in culinary history at the announcing of a partnership to deliver an online culinary program for Harper College’s Continuing Education students. Also, in an effort to connect with high school students, Michel and Chef Mark filmed several informative live sessions for students interested in pursuing a culinary career.
